In a significant boost for UK air freight, One Air has launched its first scheduled cargo service between East Midlands Airport (EMA) and Hong Kong.
The inaugural revenue flight touched down at EMA on September 4, 2025. It marks a pivotal moment for the UK-based all-cargo airline.
This new route strengthens trade links between Asia and Europe. It caters to the growing demand for time-sensitive cargo like e-commerce goods and electronics.
A Milestone for One Air
One Air, established in 2023, has quickly made its mark in the cargo industry. Initially focused on ad hoc and long-term charter flights, the airline has now expanded into scheduled services.
The first flight, operated by a Boeing 747-400F, carried a full payload of 109,484 kg across 39 pallets. Departing Hong Kong in the late evening, the flight arrived at EMA at 05:45, showcasing One Air’s efficient operations.
This new service now operates four times a week, with plans to increase frequency by 2026.
One Air’s strategic move into scheduled flights builds on its extensive experience. It has operated over 3,000 Boeing 747 charter flights from Hong Kong to 35 global destinations since January 2020.
These flights transported over 300 million kg of cargo, highlighting the airline’s expertise in the sector.

The Choice of East Midlands Airport
East Midlands Airport is the UK’s largest dedicated air freight hub, making it an ideal base for One Air’s operations. Its central location, fewer night flying restrictions, and cargo-focused infrastructure ensure seamless operations.
EMA’s connectivity allows cargo to be distributed across the UK via Swissport’s road feeder services, reaching key hubs like London Heathrow, Manchester, and Birmingham.
One Air began operations at EMA in April 2024 with a 105-tonne payload flight from Hong Kong, and the airport has since become a cornerstone of its network.
The choice of EMA reflects One Air’s focus on efficiency and accessibility. The airport’s ability to handle large freighters like the Boeing 747-400F and 777, which One Air operates, supports the airline’s growth ambitions.
A second Boeing 777 freighter is expected to join the fleet by the end of 2025, further enhancing capacity.

Meeting Market Demand
The launch comes at a time when the UK cargo market is evolving. The exit of Russian-owned carriers like AirBridgeCargo due to sanctions has created opportunities for airlines like One Air.
By focusing on time-sensitive cargo, such as e-commerce and electronics, One Air is well-positioned to meet the needs of a rapidly growing market.
The airline has also established a permanent office in Hong Kong to support its operations and strengthen ties with customers.
Looking Ahead
One Air’s expansion into scheduled services is just the beginning. The airline aims to grow its route network and increase flight frequencies, solidifying its role in the global cargo market.
With a fleet tailored for high-capacity freight and a strategic base at EMA, One Air is poised for success.
This new service not only enhances trade connectivity but also underscores the importance of EMA as a vital cargo hub. As One Air continues to innovate, its Hong Kong-EMA route will play a key role in driving the UK’s air freight industry forward.
